Whether you are interested in teaching, or simply keen to learn the skills required for honing a life long practice, this training offers an inspiring period of self development and study.

Our team

Led by state founder, Jessica Stewart, our teaching team includes internationally renowned teachers and expert teacher-trainers Dr. Andrew McGonigle, Alice Blunden, with guest modules from Victoria Grove, Anu Paavola, Adriana Moldanado and Leah Deutsch. We are a highly experienced and approachable teaching team, passionate about our content and mentoring you to thrive and develop on the course.

What is our unique approach?

The JSY training combines the best of high quality tuition and experience with an intimate learning environment at State Yoga studio, Highgate. We put a big emphasis on the student community and a carefully managed group size. Our approach is non-dogmatic, and evidence-based, We celebrate the traditional/holistic and anatomical approaches in equal measure. The course classifies as a hatha and vinyasa yoga training, with more time than average on teaching skills, sequencing and anatomy.

A yoga training is not only about becoming a yoga teacher, it is the beginning of a life changing journey of personal growth, inspiration and practice. Our training is renowned for quality of tuition, fantastic teacher to student ratio (2:1 student: teacher). Our course content is Yoga Alliance International certified, and goes above and beyond depth of content specialising in a non-dogmatic and anatomically led approach to practice, with an equally strong emphasis on understanding the roots, lineage and philosophy of this ancient practice.

Each student is carried through a step by step process toward teaching, which in its 10th rotation of the course has proven to be extremely effective at empowering students to find their own voice and teach to a very high level for a first yoga qualification. For those that do the course primarily for self development, find it an invaluable experience in improving confidence, as well as a passion and depth in their yoga practice and inspiring self belief in all remits of life.

Whilst we emphasise the in-person, in studio support which is critical for developing your own practice and learning to teach in person, we offer a high quality online seminar program for students to complete step by step as each block progresses. Live Q and A’s accompany each online seminar.

How experienced are we?

The course has been running for 11 waitlisted rotations at three diverse studios in London, and as such has developed a method that is inspirational, accessible, in-depth and provides students with a thorough introduction to yoga and how to teach well, whilst giving time for self development, and making sure friends are made and fun is had along the way.

When and where do we run the course?

State Yoga runs two 200 hour training per year, September- March in Highgate and Stoke Newington, both beautiful bright well equipped studios.

How much studying and how much practice is there?

The training tutors equally on the “doing” and the “learning”. For those keen to develop their yoga practice professionally, Jessica brings years of experience in mentoring and training teachers for various studios in London and offers a clear foundational teaching model, with the option to go deeper into teaching strategy, and methodical sequencing. Rather than creating cookie-cutter teachers, each student is supported to find an authentic and confident teaching voice that stands out.

FEEDBACK FROM OUR STUDENTS

Jess and the team delivered the course with expertise and rigour, but also humility and humour. They did not seek to create clones of their (brilliant) selves - rather, they equipped us with the tools to build our own honest, and authentic, teaching practice - in whatever form that might take.

I enjoyed such an amazing course. The knowledge, warmth and compassion made all the difference, as did the intimacy and size of the group. I would highly recommend this course.

This training fosters an incredible journey of self growth and awareness, and will set you up to be an excellent teacher. Two weeks after graduation I was able to teach a public class described by one student as “the clearest instruction she had ever received” in a yoga class.
